Lantern processions and St. Martin festivals take place in Berlin on or before St. Martin's Day, with lanterns, songs, St. Martin plays, bonfires and often a St. Martin on horseback. The overview of traditional processions and festivals – for example at Berlin Cathedral with a choir play, in Prenzlauer Berg, Kreuzberg, Steglitz, Tempelhof, Reinickendorf, Spandau and Köpenick – is maintained by Gratis in Berlin. Some of the processions offer bratwurst, St. Martin rolls, children's punch and mulled wine, and donations are collected so the festivals can continue. Donations for homeless people are also sometimes collected and handed out to those in need on St. Nicholas Day.
