Miete essen Seele auf
Kotti Nachbarschaftsladen, Adalbertstraße 95a, 10999 Berlin, Kreuzberg
About
The documentary „Miete essen Seele auf“ shows two years of neighborhood organizing and protest at the southern Kottbusser Tor. At its center are the people of Kotti & Co, who in 2012 set a visible sign against rising rents and displacement with the „Gecekondu“, a protest house built overnight. The film by Angelika Levi (co-director Christoph Dreher) tells movingly of solidarity and self-organization, linking the housing question to the history of migration and showing how closely racism, social inequality and displacement are connected. It is musically accompanied by the „Cottbusser Chor“, which takes up the film's central theme: the tension between the individual and the collective.
