Natur und Umwelt in Osteuropa: Imperiale Narben
Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, Schumannstraße 8, 10117 Berlin, Mitte
About
A discussion evening on the instrumentalisation of nature and the environment under Russian and Soviet rule, from historical continuities to today's warfare against Ukraine. Topics include the destruction of ecosystems, the blowing up of the Kakhovka dam, attacks on nuclear facilities and how the international community views these acts. It also looks at Ukraine's past experiences with ecological devastation and whether Germany's remediation of entire landscapes in East Germany after reunification can offer lessons. The panel features Dr. Franziska Davies, Nina Direnko and Dr. Michael Zschiesche, moderated by Dr. Gesine Dornblüth; the event is jointly organised by the Ukrainian Institute in Germany, the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung and the DAAD, and is held in English.
