An opening lecture by photographer Roger Ballen for the exhibition roger ballen.! drawing meets photography at Fotografiska Berlin. Ballen, who has lived and worked in South Africa since the early 1980s, speaks about his own aesthetic, the “Ballenesque,” and the ideas, symbols and subconscious impulses that shape his work. By blurring the boundaries between photography, drawing, painting and installation, he transforms the photographic image into a space where reality, imagination and the subconscious overlap. The talk is followed by a Q&A and a book signing, and is held in English.
