About

"Science and Society: The Future Social Contract" is a discussion as part of the Impact Dialogues, held in English. It is organised by the Volkswagen Foundation and the German Science and Humanities Council. It explores how the social contract between science and society is evolving – from mission-oriented research and industrial partnerships to demands for academic freedom and bureaucratic constraints. Building on the German Council of Science and Humanities' 2040 perspective, speakers including Georg Schütte, Esther Seng, Lisa Herzog and Helge Braun discuss what it takes to make this contract operational across institutions, funding systems and governance structures.
