Bell ringing practice
Parish Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, Lewisham High Street 346, SE13 6LE London, Hither Green
About
Bell ringing practice is an evening session at which St Mary's own band rings the church's ring of eight bells in the tower. The band, whose ringers belong to the Docklands Ringing Centre and the Kent County Association of Change Ringers, rings from the ringing chamber in a tower begun in 1471, with a tenor bell of just over a tonne in E flat. Visiting ringers are welcome, and learners can be taught through the Learning the Ropes scheme, but anyone wishing to come is asked to contact the Tower Secretary first, since qualified instructors are not at every practice.
