ELISE ANSEL: wall window table light

This is a solo exhibition of new paintings by Elise Ansel, titled wall window table light, running at Cadogan Gallery in London. It is her ninth solo exhibition with the gallery. The paintings continue her practice of translating Old Master painting into a contemporary visual language, focusing on Johannes Vermeer's images of women near windows, immersed in light. The title refers both to the visible subject matter of Vermeer's paintings and to the tension between painting as a tangible, wall-like object and painting as a window into illusory space.
