“Estate. A Reverie” Film Screenings & Talkaoke – part of Estate Talks

The final event of the Estate Talks series brings film screenings and Talkaoke, a pop-up talk show by The People Speak, together at Haggerston Community Centre. It features the award-winning film 'Estate. A Reverie' (2015, 83 mins) by resident filmmaker Andrea Luka Zimmerman, made with residents over seven years, interweaving intimate portraits, residents' historical re-enactments, landscape and architectural studies and dramatised scenes to ask how we might resist being framed exclusively through class, gender, ability or disability, and even through geography. Also screened is 'Taking over King's Land' (2014, 23 mins) by Gillian McIver, following Nazir Tanbouli as he battles weather, vandalism and lack of funds to create a massive mural installation across a condemned housing estate in the run-up to the 2012 Olympics. The evening includes a free-flowing conversation around the Talkaoke table, with refreshments provided.
