Fjord
About
Fjord is a film that asks what happens when religious norms contradict the social ones, centring on Mihai (Sebastian Stan) and Lisbet (Renate Reinsve) and their five children. It is directed by Cristian Mungiu, the winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes, with Lisa Carlehed, Ellen Dorrit Petersen and Lisa Loven Kongsli also starring. The Gheorghius family have only just moved to a small Norwegian town, where the crystal-clear waters of the surrounding fjords conceal how easily polarised our society is. A micro-cosmos of its own, the film asks the viewer to take a stand, or the stand, in one crucial courtroom scene.

Critics
6.7Good
Critics praise the strong lead performances and the film's gripping, thought-provoking moral dilemma that refuses easy answers. Others fault it as bloodless, overwrought and underpowered, feeling the director's formal mannerisms never illuminate the subject.
