Gavagai: drama behind a Medea film shoot.

Gavagai is a drama set during a turbulent shoot of a Medea adaptation in Senegal, where Maja seeks solace in a love affair with her co-star Nourou. Months later they meet again at the film's premiere in Berlin, which turns into a disaster when the press questions the film projecting a European narrative onto a former colony, and a racist incident further unsettles their reunion. While the ancient tragedy plays out on screen, a contemporary drama unfolds, in an unflinchingly complex look at racial tensions, filmmaking and power dynamics. The film is directed by Ulrich Köhler and stars Jean-Christophe Folly, Maren Eggert and Nathalie Richard.
