The Ligeti Project: Ligeti's music, reimagined as jazz.

A jazz evening at Vortex Jazz Club marking the 20th anniversary of the passing of avant-garde composer György Ligeti. Pianist Bruno Heinen, described by The Guardian as "eclectic, eccentric, and unobtrusively erudite", leads an ensemble with Heidi Vogel on vocals, Alex Hitchcock on tenor saxophone, Or Bareket on bass, Gene Calderazzo on drums and Salim Akki on percussion. Drawing from Ligeti's "Musica Ricercata", the music fuses the composer's eerie soundscapes—made famous by filmmaker Stanley Kubrick—with jazz exploration, expanding from minimal melodic ideas into deep, shifting grooves across two sets.
