About
Life Drawing Theatre – ‘Through me is the way to the sorrowful city’ (Divine Comedy – Inferno epic stanzas) is an interactive storytelling workshop combining performance and drawing. Sonnets from Dante's Divine Comedy are narrated by Paul McGill, while models hold poses inspired by each sonnet for 5 to 10 minutes, letting attendees sketch their own storyboard without needing any artistic experience or prior knowledge of the poem. Among the sonnets is the tale of Odysseus from Canto XXVI, in which Dante and Virgil encounter the voyager among the Fraudulent Counsellors. The workshop is part of the Tales of Departure series within the Gates of the Abode season, and takes place in the Gothic, picturesque setting of Abney Park, whose Egyptian Revival gateway has long marked a threshold between the world of the living and the dead.
