About
RCM Brass: West Side Story is a concert by the RCM Brass Ensemble, directed by Amos Miller, in the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall. The all-American programme spans 20th- and 21st-century works, from Adolphus Hailstork's American Fanfare and pieces by Barber, Ives, Feldman, Ruggles and Jennifer Higdon to Bernstein's Presto Barbaro from On the Waterfront. It closes with a show-stopping West Side Story suite, arranged by Eric Crees, bringing the timeless tale of love and tragedy to life through the rich harmonies and vibrant sounds of brass. The evening aptly opens with a fanfare and ends with works by Leonard Bernstein, one of the most famous and influential composers of his nation, whose music traverses classical, popular and jazz traditions.
