About

An evening of spoken word and choir at the National Gallery, held in the Pigott Theatre on level -1 of the Sainsbury Wing. It is led by poet and lawyer Dave Neita together with composer, artist and double bassist Dr Deborah Pritchard, joined by a choral ensemble. The performance is inspired by the exhibition 'Yinka Shonibare and Thomas Gainsborough: A Conversation', exploring themes of identity, dialogue, social justice and freedom. Blending historical and newly commissioned work, it places classical music of Gainsborough's era alongside contemporary compositions and bespoke poetry, reflecting on the legacies of empire and the transatlantic slave trade.
