About
A one-night jazz concert at the Vortex Jazz Club in which a seven-piece band performs Oliver Nelson's landmark 1961 album The Blues and the Abstract Truth in its entirety. It is led by saxophonist and bandleader Reiss Ellis Beckles, who plays alto saxophone alongside Joseph Oti on trumpet, Houston Patton on tenor saxophone, Phil Knights on baritone saxophone, Simon Purcell on piano, Tom Riviere on double bass and Laura Klain on drums. Using Nelson's original arrangements, the ensemble celebrates the album's powerful melodies, sophisticated harmonies and timeless blues language. It is a rare chance to hear one of jazz's most influential recordings performed live, as originally conceived.
