About
A 1996 horror-comedy in which a knife-wielding killer in a fright mask stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia. Director Wes Craven revitalised the slasher genre with this funny, clever and scary modern classic, providing both tension and self-parody as the body count mounts. It stars Drew Barrymore, Courteney Cox, Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Rose McGowan and Matthew Lillard, and the victims aren't always the ones you'd expect.

Critics
7.2Very good
Critics praise the film's self-aware wit, blend of humour and suspense, and Neve Campbell's performance, crediting it with reviving the slasher genre. Detractors find the in-jokes excessive, the plot predictable, and the satire unable to sustain genuine scares to the end.
