The Literal Translation: Alice d'Lumiere's comic solo show.
About
The Literal Translation is a bilingual, autobiographical show combining gender-fluid prose, verse, comedy and song, with some foolhardy attempts at actual French. It is written and performed by performance poet Alice d'Lumiere, who was inspired by failing to order a coffee in French while performing at a festival in Avignon. The piece is a playful, silly but absurdly honest response to that failure, about late life learning, shifting identity, non-conforming voices and romanticizing the exotic. The show runs for 60 minutes and is recommended for ages 16 and up, contains some mild swearing, and is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
