About

Visionaries: Robbins and MacMillan is a mixed ballet programme on the Main Stage, made up of two works that meditate on humanity, community and connection. It brings together Jerome Robbins's Dances at a Gathering, set to familiar piano melodies by Fryderyk Chopin and built from plotless dances that portrait human connection, and Kenneth MacMillan's Song of the Earth, a 1965 work whose elegiac choreography expresses themes such as the transience of life and the imminence of death to Gustav Mahler's score, drawing on 8th-century Chinese poems. The performance lasts approximately 2 hours and 40 minutes, including one interval, and is content suitable for all.
