When David Heard: Whitacre's choral work by candlelight.
- Smith Square Hall
- from £15
About
The Purcell Singers perform a candlelit a cappella choral programme of contrasts between darkness and light, despair and hope, anguish and love. Conductor Benjamin Kirk leads the choir through works by Eric Whitacre, Brahms, Sandström, Rautavaara and Tõnu Kõrvits, ending with Kõrvits' The Night is Darkening Round Me for eight voices and mezzo solo. Whitacre's When David Heard, the thrilling centrepiece, builds its simple repeated text into a heart-stopping climax of raw emotion. The evening lasts about two hours including an interval.
