About

An exhibition of vernacular photography, "Anywhere–Everywhere: Selections from the Peter J. Cohen Collection of Vernacular Photography," showing over 300 photographs. It is presented by BFA Visual and Critical Studies at the School of Visual Arts and organized by faculty member Peter Hristoff, curated by former and current students of the program. Vernacular photography, almost always anonymous, includes portraits, landscapes, still lives and snapshots of occasions from family gatherings to funerals, often found in flea markets and antique shops. The Peter J. Cohen collection holds over 100,000 photographs spanning the entire 20th century into the 21st, gathered over 30 years, and visitors may vote for their favorite photograph, with one voter drawn to win it on the final day.
