About

Catherine Opie: To Be Seen is a museum exhibition of the American photographer's work, touring to Edinburgh from the National Portrait Gallery in London and curated in collaboration with the artist. It is Opie's first major museum exhibition in the UK and her first ever solo show in Scotland. Nearly 80 of her portraits hang beside portraits from Scotland's national collection, asking who portraits show, why and how. Her subjects include mentors and collaborators, queer communities, children, surfers, high school footballers, political crowds and the artist herself in self-portraits.
