Bread Day preceded by The Train Stop
The Metrograph, Ludlow Street 7, 10002 New York, Manhattan
About
A screening of two short films shown together: Bread Day and The Train Stop. In Bread Day, Sergei Dvortsevoy's 1998 film, the few elderly residents of a nearly abandoned village outside St. Petersburg push an unmanned train car along a spur each Tuesday to supply themselves with a week's daily bread, a ritual that appears as both a miracle of tenacity and a commentary on systemic dysfunction. Sergei Loznitsa's The Train Stop, from 2000, is a sumptuously photographed record of sleepers in a station waiting room one night when the train does not arrive. The evening's films are presented by Metrograph, the cinema on Ludlow Street in New York.
