About
A book conversation on migration, cultural exchange, and visual art along the Silk Road, part of Asia Society's Museum Salon Series. Dr. Jin Xu of Columbia University discusses his new book, The Silk Road with Many Faces: Sogdian Immigrants in Early Medieval China, with Dr. Xiaohan Du, curator of pre-modern Asian art at Asia Society Museum. Drawing on stone sarcophagi excavated in recent decades, the book reconstructs the lives of elite Sogdian immigrants in sixth-century China, whose merchant communities dominated the Silk Road trade from the third to the ninth century.
