Dark Forest, Silver Moon
The future perfect, Saint Lukes Place 8, Manhattan
About
"Dark Forest, Silver Moon" is an exhibition of a new body of work by designer Ian Collings at The Future Perfect's Los Angeles Goldwyn House, his fourth solo show with the gallery. It marks a return to wood in his practice and an ongoing conversation with trees, working in response to the intelligence of materials and the rhythms of natural processes. Carved root burls and tree cavities carry traces of compression and growth, while cast tin catches and scatters light, and cabinets and lighting become vessels for illumination. Collings treats shadow as something that shapes perception, drawing attention to forms and details that brighter light can obscure.
