About

An exhibition at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, on view as the first chapter of a multi-year initiative, showing process materials from a new commission alongside related works from the Museum's permanent collection. It centers on artist Saya Woolfalk's WoodsWoman, a mythic botanist-healer who inhabits her 'Empathic Universe,' an imagined utopian future in which humans and nature exist in harmony. Woolfalk applied this lens to the Museum's holding of nearly 2,000 objects, selecting works by artists such as Huma Bhabha, Robert Blackburn, Abigail DeVille, and Martin Wong that explore the cosmos, human-nature relationships, speculative worlds, and collective storytelling. The exhibition, curated in collaboration with Eileen Jeng Lynch, also works as a laboratory, with programming that invites audiences into Woolfalk's creative process.
