About

Family Program | Botanical Prints is a drop-in hands-on workshop at Cooper–Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, where youth ages 5–12 and their adult guardians create botanical prints using gel plates. It is part of the museum's monthly second-Saturday family activities and is inspired by the exhibition Frederic Church in Jamaica, whose botanical sketches made on treks through Jamaica's landscape will be on view. A museum educator guides participants as they use ferns and other botanical pressings to make prints capturing the details of nature; no experience is necessary and all materials are provided. The program is included with museum admission, youth 18 and under are always free, and registration is not required.
