Kate Rigg with Slanty Eyed Mama

Kate Rigg with Slanty Eyed Mama is a residency at La MaMa built around the spoken word, rock and comedy duo of the same name. Slanty Eyed Mama is award-winning lyricist and singer Kate Rigg (Lady-K) and electric violinist Lyris Hung, who met while studying at the Juilliard School and create a fresh American Asian sound. Their work has taken them twice to the Smithsonian Institute, to headline the PBS Special "Race is the Place", and to stages such as LA Grand Performances, the Perth International Festival and the Vancouver Comedy Festival. On November 1 they lead "Speak Up! Speak Out! Speak Up!", a free workshop for ages 14-22 on turning stories and feelings into powerful spoken word with improvised musical accompaniment.
