About

A documentary about the making of Sofia Coppola's film Marie Antoinette, drawn from footage her mother Eleanor Coppola shot on set at the Palace of Versailles in 2005. Eleanor Coppola filmed her daughter directing the first production ever granted access to the palace, and eighty hours of that footage went unseen for two decades. Twenty years after the film's release, and in fulfillment of her mother's wish, it becomes a film of its own. It follows the production, Milena Canonero's costume work, and what it took to direct at 34, watched by her own mother.

Critics

7.6Very good

Critics praise the documentary's warm, intimate mother-daughter portrait, lush behind-the-scenes detail and emotional poignancy. Some fault its gentleness and lack of drama, saying it may appeal mainly to devoted fans of the original film.
