Margot Bergman: On the other hand

"Margot Bergman: On the other hand" is a gallery exhibition of paintings. It brings together works by Margot Bergman made between 2012 and 2014 that have never been shown in New York, alongside large-scale portraits of imagined women from 2015 to 2019. Earlier in her career, Bergman painted into thrift store pictures bought in Chicago to uncover faces, before turning to blank canvases that freed her expressive, humorous style. Her paintings morph between plants, animals and figures, and are deliberately left unfinished, so that the soul can wander.
