Talks and readings
Matthew Perlman in conversation on painter Suzanne Perlman.
About
An author talk at The Jewish Museum about the painter Suzanne Perlman (1922–2020), a Hungary-born artist who fled Europe during World War II and spent 50 years in Curaçao, home to the oldest continuously active Jewish community in the Western Hemisphere. Matthew Perlman, Director of the Suzanne Perlman Estate, speaks about stewarding his grandmother's legacy and compiling a newly published monograph of her expressionist paintings of figures and landscapes. He is joined in conversation by Darsie Alexander, Senior Deputy Director and Susan & Elihu Rose Chief Curator, discussing her practice as it is now being rediscovered within a broader art historical narrative. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing after the talk.
