Pumpkin Smash
Snug Harbor
Free
About
Pumpkin Smash is a free event where you bring leftover pumpkins, jack-o-lanterns, and gourds to smash, after which Snug Harbor turns them into compost for its grounds and farm. It is run by Snug Harbor, a New York City culture park, with funding from the New York City Council through A Greener NYC and the Civic Impact Fund initiative of NYC Service. Beyond the smashing, there are crafts, a cooking demo highlighting fall flavors, music, and chances to learn about composting and local wildlife. Families can come in costume for a raffle, and the family bringing the most pumpkins wins a family membership.
