About
Tween Primes is the book club of the National Museum of Mathematics for readers aged 10 to 17, who meet to discuss books that combine literature with mathematics. This session is hosted by Dr. Tiago Hirth, MoMath's 2026–2027 Visiting Professor for Public Outreach, and is devoted to The Dots and Boxes Game: Sophisticated Child's Play by Elwyn Berlekamp. The book shows that the familiar game of connecting dots to form boxes hides a surprising complexity, teaching advanced strategies to win at any level, with chapters of strategy mixed with sample problems and solutions. Those strategies also apply to other games such as Strings-and-Coins and Nimstring.
