New York Irish Center, Jackson Avenue 10-40, 11101, Queens
$210/course
About
A weekly beginners' course in sean-nós, the old-style Irish traditional singing, taught over seven weeks on Tuesdays at the New York Irish Center. The class is led by Irish-American traditional singer Madelyn Monaghan and is entirely for beginners. Students learn the sounds and features of the Irish language and vocal technique like ornamentation, with a new song in Irish each week alongside its origin, translation, deeper meanings, and historical context. The songs are described as a vital part of Irish culture and a wonderful gateway for learning the language.
