About
An evening of instrumental music at National Sawdust, headlined by Surprise Chef with a late set, with support from multi-instrumentalist Ben Hackett. Surprise Chef, a quartet from just outside Melbourne, build mood-driven soundscapes that pull from 70s film scores, the funkier side of jazz, and the samples that form the foundation of hip hop. Their fourth album Superb earned widespread international acclaim, and they have since toured across Australia, Asia, North America, the UK and Europe, also premiering a live score for the Australian classic Wake in Fright. Ben Hackett, based in Athens, Georgia, makes softly layered music on woodwinds, acoustic instruments and electronics, and also produces and plays for artists like Rich Ruth and Will Johnson.
