About
An evening panel and conversation titled "The City That Raised Us: Three Memoirists on Brooklyn, Memory, and Survival" takes place in the Members' Room of The New York Society Library and online, and is open to the public. Memoirists Patrick Dougher, Katrina Brownlee, and Dr. Rob Gore, moderated by Regina Brooks, discuss coming of age, identity, resilience, violence, and transformation in Brooklyn during the 1970s and 1980s. Their stories intersect through geography and era, offering a portrait of the borough before its reinvention and of how people survive and shape themselves in urban environments. Dougher is the author of Concrete Dreamland, Brownlee of And Then Came the Blues, and Gore of Treating Violence; Dougher is a New York Society Library Book Awards winner, and the event is free with registration required.
