Anastácio, born in São Paulo, teaches himself Brazilian percussion from childhood, mastering congas, pandeiro, berimbau and more, with his voice bridging rhythm and melody. He performs and learns alongside major Brazilian artists such as Elis Regina, Djavan and Milton Nascimento, later works with Japanese musicians including a 1994 tour with Ryuichi Sakamoto, and after moving to New York City collaborates with artists such as Mongo Santamaría, Kenny Barron and Astrud Gilberto. He brings the sounds of Brazil to the Zinc every Sunday evening.
