Van Cortlandt Nature Group Walk
Van Cortlandt Park Alliance
About
Van Cortlandt Nature Group Walk is a slow nature walk through Van Cortlandt Park led by naturalist Debbi Dolan, who introduces participants to the park's local flora and fauna. The Van Cortlandt Park Alliance runs the walk, which explores how nature is active in the fall, with bird migrations, changing leaves, and animals preparing to hibernate. Walkers can 'leaf peek' at oaks, hickories, sugar maples and tulip trees changing color and look for new bird arrivals such as the white throated sparrow and the dark eyed juncos feeding on seeds, nuts and berries. This walk meets in the parking lot of the Riverdale Stables and follows the trails of the park's Northwest Woods.
