Forest Fridays
Van Cortlandt Park — Classic Playground
About
Forest Fridays is a volunteer forest restoration session at a new work location in the park, where your work opens the forest floor for native wildflowers, oak seedlings, and the understory waiting underneath. It is organized by the Van Cortlandt Park Alliance, which works in close partnership with the Department of Parks & Recreation to preserve, support, and promote the park's ecology, recreation, cultural arts, and history. Volunteers meet at the Classic Playground on the southern end of the park; ages 15 and up are welcome, minors need a signed waiver, and each shift is limited to 30 volunteers. Bring clothes that can get dirty, sturdy shoes, a water bottle, and sunscreen; tools and gloves are provided, and RSVP is required.
