About
The Democracy Studies Annual Lecture is a public talk with Claudia Landwehr, Professor of Political Theory and Public Policy at Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz, moderated by Hannah Werner of the University of Zurich. It asks how democratic institutions can meet citizen expectations of equal voice and effective self-government without compromising the capacity to produce fair outcomes. In her new book, co-authored with Armin Schäfer, she develops a citizen-focused, empirically grounded theory of democracy. Drawing on survey and experimental evidence, the two propose equal deliberative responsiveness as a criterion for successful representation and outline institutional innovations to realise it.
