Ekstase (Extase): the notorious 1933 drama by Machatý.

«Ekstase (Extase)» is a 1933 drama by Gustav Machatý, shown in a new reconstruction of the German-language version. Eva, a woman from a good family, turns to the young engineer Adam rather than her wooden husband Emil after dissatisfaction on her wedding night – a decision with consequences. The part-sound film, starring Hedwig Kiesler (Hedy Lamarr) as Eva, is considered a milestone of Czech film history and strikingly modern in its portrayal of a sexually frustrated woman striving for autonomy. An introduction by Daniel Wiegand accompanies the screening.
