Elle

«Elle» is a 2016 feature film directed by Paul Verhoeven, starring Isabelle Huppert in the leading role. Michèle runs a successful video game studio and stays composed, ironic and efficient even after being brutally raped in her villa by a masked intruder. The rape gradually becomes a catalyst of self-empowerment: she sees through the testosterone-soaked entanglements among her employees, ends one affair and begins another, until she pulls off a perfidious revenge. More than a thriller, the film is a wicked social comedy that combines the rape-revenge motif with the traditions of the bourgeois French comedy of manners.
