About
«Robots Leaving the Cinema» is a lecture within the series «Now Processing: Computational Methods and Digital Epistemologies in Art History», the institute colloquium of the Kunsthistorisches Institut at the University of Zurich in the autumn semester of 2026. The series is conceived and organised by Daniel Berndt; this session is given by Leonardo Impett. The lecture develops the concept of «neural exchange value» as the general theory of value under contemporary machine learning. It argues that recent generative video systems and so-called world models turn visual culture from representation into a mechanism for the capture of labour, making cinema the privileged site of this transition.
