Von Benin nach Zürich - und zurück

An event about colonial collections and collaborative research using the Benin Bronzes as an example. In 1897 British troops plundered the royal palace of Benin, and in 1940 fourteen of the objects entered the collection of the Ethnographic Museum of the University of Zurich. Provenance research led the university to return the objects to Nigeria in June 2026. Speaker is Alexis Malefakis, curator for Africa at the Ethnographic Museum, moderated by Csongor Kozma, director of the Paulus Akademie, which is staging the event together with the University of Zurich's Center for Lifelong Learning.
