ZJO / ZURICH JAZZ ORCHESTRA — Duke-Ellington-Series: «New Orleans Suite»

The Zurich Jazz Orchestra, led by Ed Partyka, gives a concert in its Duke-Ellington-Series. At its centre is the «New Orleans Suite», a late masterpiece by Ellington, recorded in 1970 and awarded a Grammy in 1971 in the category «Best Large Jazz Ensemble Performance». The album is an emotional homage to the roots of jazz, seen through the nostalgic eyes of an aging Duke Ellington. The rest of the programme consists of highlights from other later Ellington suites such as «The Far East Suite», «Such Sweet Thunder» and «Peer Gynt».
