„Joy Is Not a Metaphor“ is an English-language workshop led by choreographer Ana Pi and her NA MATA LAB, part of the School of Self-Defense. It offers insight into her ongoing research CORPO FIRME: peripheral dances, sacred gesture, which deals with movement practices of the African diaspora across the transatlantic sphere. At its core is the question of what forms of knowledge, memory and freedom are stored in bodies — and how dance can make them more visible. Through exercises in rhythm, presence, tension and listening, individual and collective choreographic situations emerge between improvisation and composition.
