"Names not Numbers" is a play performed by the theater group of the Auen congregation. Christine Seeberger wrote the text and directs, with Monika Breß leading the production. It tells the historical voyage of the St. Louis, which left Hamburg for Havana in May 1939 carrying more than 900 German refugees, and how the passengers' fate came to depend on the crew's choices of conscience and on indifferent governments, corrupt politicians and cynical businessmen. It opens with a survivor's cry: "We are not numbers! We have names!"
