About
With great expressiveness and evident enthusiasm, Bridge Markland races through Kleist's The Broken Jug, distilling the classic into an entertaining pop-music courtroom show featuring hand-operated puppets. It is one woman playing 7 roles with 9 puppets to 109 songs in 80 minutes of playback theatre. The court case concerning the broken jug conceals another offence: an influential man has harassed a young woman – will Eve dare to accuse the perpetrator and thereby exonerate her fiancé, Ruprecht? In her 'classic in the box' series, the Berlin-based performer weaves together faithful lines from the original text and pop music references, shifting rapidly between performance, puppetry and lip-syncing.
