About
A guided tour at the Knoblauchhaus looks at art education for women in 18th-century Berlin. 240 years ago, women mostly had no access to an artistic education; the Berlin graphic artist Daniel Chodowiecki made it possible for them. His daughters and their friends learned drawing and pastel painting from him, which was exceptional in the male-dominated society of the time. As vice-director of the art academy, he also supported the aspiring artists beyond his lessons, putting them in touch with the Berlin and Dresden art scenes and enabling them to take part in the academy's annual exhibition.
