About
A permanent exhibition at the Kunstgewerbemuseum on the Kulturforum presenting European applied arts and design from the Middle Ages to Art déco, among them the medieval Welfenschatz treasure and Renaissance silver. It is organised by the Kunstgewerbemuseum of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, housed in a building designed by Rolf Gutbrod and largely remodelled by the architects Kuehn Malvezzi. Right at the entrance, a darkened fashion gallery stages about 130 costumes and as many accessories as a walk through 150 years of fashion history, with gowns by Paul Poiret, Elsa Schiaparelli and Christian Dior. The design collection in the basement ranges from Bauhaus classics and a gallery of chairs to works by Ettore Sottsass, Philippe Starck and Konstantin Grcic.
