A public guided tour titled „Einfach Kunst?! Orient und Okzident“ takes place at the Gemäldegalerie. Sabine Engel will show how European painting perceived the Orient and what these depictions reveal about their own era. Exotic fabrics, precious spices, pilgrims, merchants and envoys – the Orient has fascinated the people of Europe since the Middle Ages. Orient and Occident never stood only for contrasts, but also for cultural exchange and mutual inspiration.
